The peculiar yet familiar creatures that Romy Joya Kuldip Singh creates by playing with shapes and constructions affect the viewer through the suggestion of life. Interaction sets the sculptures in motion, for example by turning the handles in various works. The often small and refined mechanics are the concrete result of a thought-through plan, executed with the main ingredients wood, plaster and plastic. In the more recent works it is not the urged interaction – as is the case for the Curious mechanics [2015] – instead it is the material and form that elicit the viewer’s affection towards the curious creatures… MORE
